JAKARTA - YouTube content creators in the near future are required to immediately double the security of their accounts, by activating two-factor authentication (2FA).

This step aims to make everyone who logs in to the platform more secure. Google's popular video-sharing website is known to be home to hundreds of thousands of professional content creators, as well as a large number of casual users who upload content regularly.

Reporting from Screenrant, Friday, August 26, via its official Twitter account, YouTube announced that two-step verification, will be mandatory on November 1, 2021, for those who use YouTube Studio and are signed into the YouTube Partner Program (YPP).

YouTube Studio is YouTube's backend where content creators can manage their videos, view revenue data, and explore other analytics. Google highly recommends this enhanced account security to everyone, whether or not using YouTube Studio.

Later, Google will send notifications to Android and iPhone devices that have Gmail access or Google apps. After setting this up, whenever and wherever login verification will be required, users can simply check their phone and tap on the alert to confirm that it is their identity.

So, if the content creator doesn't have 2FA enabled, YouTubers will be threatened with not being able to access YouTube Studio. How to activate 2FA is quite easy. This can be enabled through the creator's Google account settings or by visiting the myaccount.google.com link and then clicking the security tab and selecting two-step verification.

Then, the content creators will be asked to choose a verification option, namely a login notification via mobile or tablet, using a security key, or using a verification code sent via SMS or phone call.

However, the obligation to enable 2FA is still limited to creators who are members of the YouTube Partner Program. However, other YouTube users who already have 2FA access are required to enable the feature to get extra protection for their accounts.
