Mercedes-Benz Collaboration With NVIDIA For The Most Sophisticated Autonomous Car

JAKARTA - The German car company, Mercedes-Benz, announced its collaboration with NVIDIA to develop a smart vehicle platform for the future. Later, the next-gen Mercedes-Benz car will be equipped with smart devices that can be updated like smartphones.

Quoting The Verge, Mercedes has long wanted to develop a vehicle with an autonomous driving function. This new platform will use the construction of the Nvidia Drive AGX Orin chipset, which NVIDIA introduced at the 2019 Consumer Electronic Show (CES).

“We are very happy to work with Mercedes-Benz. It is the perfect partner for us given our long record of innovation and strong technical relationships. It is clear from our extensive discussions with Mercedes that we share a vision for the car of the future, "said NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang.

This new NVIDIA module allows Mercedes to upgrade car software just like updating a smartphone. This technology also includes the driver assist system that Tesla has or the driverless parking feature in Cadillac cars.

Besides being easy to update, the software developed by NVIDIA also supports the functions of autonomous vehicles. "Together, we will revolutionize the driving experience that can be renewed easily," continued Huang.

The new partnership follows in the footsteps of Daimler AG, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz which last week suspended its partnership program with BMW in developing autonomous vehicle technology.

So far, Mercedes has sold 2.39 million cars worldwide in 2019. The plan is that Mercedes' cooperation with NVIDIA in developing smart car technology will last for five years.
