Kominfo Cooperates With Youtube And Google To Eradicate Misleading Hoax

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) will cooperate with the Youtube video streaming platform and the Google search engine in eradicating hoaxes and disinformation. Moreover, information related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The plan was conveyed by the Minister of Communications and Informatics (Menkominfo) Johnny G Plate after meeting with Global Youtube CEO Susan Wojcicki and Google Cloud Asia Pacific Executive Scott Beaumont.

"Today the agenda for strengthening the global cooperation of the Ministry of Communication and Information is underway. In connection with crucial matters in communication and informatics issues, especially in efforts to adapt to new habits, "he said in an online press conference, Friday 12 June.

In a virtual meeting with Youtube and Google, Johnny revealed that he had discussed collaborating on content handling to fight disinformation or hoaxes.

“The Ministry of Communication and Information appreciates Youtube's efforts in fighting disinformation / hoaxes that are specifically related to breaking the Covid-19 distribution chain. The Ministry of Communication and Information also appreciates Youtube for its commitment to help disseminate healthy information to the global community and its efforts to build digital literacy in Indonesian society, "explained Johnny.

It is known, Johnny also discussed the role of social media such as Youtube in the digital economy. According to him, the Indonesian government and Youtube have the same goal in increasing digital economic opportunities and accelerating the transformation process towards a digital society or Society 5.0.

Building a Data Center

Johnny also discussed the question of building a Google Cloud data center with the Managing Director of Google Cloud Region Asia Pacific Rick Harshman and the Head of Government Affairs Google Cloud Region Asia Pacific Barbara Navarro which will be launched in the coming weeks.

"The Ministry of Communication and Information (also) emphasizes the discussion on the data center construction program - Google Cloud which is scheduled to be launched on June 24, 2020. This is part of the efforts of the government and the private sector to maintain the acceleration of digital transformation in Indonesia, "explained Johnny.

During the meeting, collaboration and cooperation to increase Indonesia's digital talents were also discussed in order to support e-commerce, tele-education, and the use of online health applications during the pandemic.
