JAKARTA – Industrialization of Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicles (KBL-BB) is one of the focuses of the Ministry of Industry. For this reason, the Ministry of Industry continues to stimulate and conduct research for component development, supporting infrastructure, and handling battery waste for electric vehicles.
"Currently, the industrialization of KBL-BB in Indonesia has formed an infrastructure preparation ecosystem that has begun to move by involving stakeholders, it is hoped that later the KBL-BB industry will become a leading sector," said Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in Jakarta, Sunday.
Head of the Standardization and Industrial Services Policy Agency (BSKJI) of the Ministry of Industry, Doddy Rahadi, added that optimizing the KBLBB program requires the support of facilities and infrastructure, both production facilities for the vehicle itself and the supporting infrastructure.
"The Ministry of Industry continues to encourage the acceleration of the program for energy-efficient and environmentally friendly motor vehicles for road transportation in the context of energy security, energy efficiency improvement, and energy conservation in the transportation sector," he said in a written statement.
Doddy added that this at the same time can support the realization of clean energy, clean and environmentally friendly air quality, as well as Indonesia's commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The Head of the Center for Optimizing the Utilization of Industrial Technology and Industrial Policy at the Ministry of Industry Heru Kustanto explained that in order to support the facilities and infrastructure as well as supporting infrastructure for electric vehicles, his party has conducted several studies related to the development of batteries and electric charging infrastructure, as stipulated in the National Research Priorities (PRN).
He mentioned several examples, including engineering results from the Center for Materials and Technical Goods (B4T) in the technology of making batteries for electric motorcycles in the form of pouches.

"Then from the driving side, BBLM (Balai Besar Logam and Machinery) has retrofitted the electric motor as a kitchen for electric vehicles," he said.
As for handling waste due to the use of electric vehicle batteries, the Center for Industrial Pollution Prevention Technology (BPTPPI) Semarang has conducted research on the circular economy of electric vehicle batteries.
Furthermore, the Surabaya Industrial Baristand which is a technical unit of the Ministry of Industry's BSKJI with core competencies in the electronics industry to support and contribute to the acceleration program for the KBL-BB program in the country.
The support provided includes, among others, designing the infrastructure for the Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) for electric motorcycles.
In an effort to help accelerate the KBLBB program, the Surabaya Industrial Baristand has designed an infrastructure in the form of an SPKLU for electric motorcycles. SPKLU is a very vital infrastructure in the implementation of KBLBB.
"The existence of these various initiatives is expected to encourage active efforts from the industrial world, academia, and domestic associations to support Indonesia in welcoming the era of electric vehicles," he said.
