OpenSignal Research: Telkomsel Is Superior In Video, Tri Is Better For Playing Games

JAKARTA - The analysis company OpenSignal has just released a report on which Indonesian operators excel in the categories of download speed, upload, video experience, and also 4G coverage. Telkomsel is the operator that excels in download speed, while Tri Indonesia provides the best experience for online games.

It should be noted, OpenSignal conducts analysis for 90 days, starting from February 1, 2021. This analysis process is carried out both nationally and regionally. This report is specifically presented by Opensignal for June 2021.

In the report, Telkomsel is the operator with the highest download speed. The speed reaches 13.4 Mbps, up 0.8 Mbps from before. Position below Telkomsel, there is XL Axiata which has a download speed of 12.6 Mbps, an increase of about 1.3 Mbps from the previous report.

“Telkomsel's advantage over XL has decreased from 1.4 Mbps as seen in our previous report to 0.9 Mbps this time. This is because the download speed of XL users increased by 1.3 Mbps to 12.6 Mbps,” explained OpenSignal.

Meanwhile, Indosat Ooredoo occupies the third position with 12.1 Mbps, Tri Indonesia with 11.1 Mbps, and Smartfren with 6.3 Mbps. OpenSignal said, overall the average download speed in Indonesia is better than before.

Not only about the download ability, Telkomsel is also a champion for upload speed matters. The operator with the red logo has an upload speed of 6.8 Mbps, beating Indosat and XL which only have speeds of 5.7 Mbps and 5.6 Mbps. While in positions four and five, there are Tri Indonesia and Smartfren which have upload speeds of around 5.1 Mbps and 1.2 Mbps.

In addition to offering super-fast download and upload speeds, Telkomsel excels in terms of video experience. OpenSignal assesses that Telkomsel is at the forefront by winning 62.7 points.

Under Telkomsel, there are Tri Indonesia with 61.7 points and Indosat with 59.9 points. In the fourth and fifth positions are occupied by XL and Smartfren with 57.3 points and 40.1 points, respectively.

Meanwhile, Tri Indonesia holds the highest score for mobile gaming experience and voice apps. For gaming experience, Tri Indonesia scored 69.4 points on a 100-point scale.

The results of this game experience indicator are obtained by analyzing the experience of playing multiplayer online games by users when using certain operators that provide 4G networks.

On the other hand, Tri Indonesia also received the highest score for voice application experience, with a score of 78.6. The score is obtained by analyzing user experience in using call quality on over-the-top (OTT) voice services in applications such as WhatsApp, Skype, and Facebook Messenger.

Not satisfied with that, Telkomsel also won again in terms of 4G network coverage. OpenSignal gave the operator a score of 8.5 points. The problem with the score, of course, is far superior to XL and Indosat, which have 6.2 points and 6.1 points, respectively.

Meanwhile, Smartfren and Tri Indonesia were the operators who were ranked fourth and fifth with 5 points and 4.6 points. "A score of 8.5 shows that Telkomsel users can find 4G signals in more locations than our users on other operators," said OpenSignal.

For the 4G availability indicator, Smartfren holds the highest score, with a score of 97.9 percent. These results are obtained from analyzing network availability by showing the proportion of time users have on their devices to be able to get a 4G connection.

Unfortunately, XL and Indosat Ooredoo are not enough to fill the highest positions of these indicators. This report allows XL and Indosat Ooredoo to immediately expand the provision of 4G network services to meet user experience.
