LG Partners with Nvidia to Develop a Humanoid Robot, Introduced in Early 2027

LG Electronics will introduce a new generation of humanoid robots that can walk on two legs in the first quarter of 2027. The robot was developed using the Nvidia robotics platform.

Yonhap quoted Friday, August 14, saying LG had signed a memorandum of understanding with Nvidia at the chip company's headquarters in Santa Clara, California. The signing was attended by LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.

The humanoid robot will use the Nvidia Jetson Thor robotics chip module.

The development also uses Isaac GR00T, Nvidia's basic model for humanoid robots, as well as Holoscan for Robotics which serves as a robotics safety system.

LG will also include technology from a number of its affiliates. Actuators, components that move the robot's body parts, come from LG Electronics. Sensors come from LG Innotek, while batteries come from LG Energy Solution.

The cooperation between LG and Nvidia does not stop at humanoid robots. The two companies will also expand their cooperation into three areas, namely robotics, artificial intelligence or AI factories, and mobility.

Previously, LG stated that it would combine the main capabilities needed to bring robotics technology to the market.

The company is positioning robotics as one of its key future businesses in the physical AI industry.
