JAKARTA - The US Department of Defense, commonly known as the Pentagon, is partnering with more Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology companies, including Microsoft, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Nvidia.

Previously, the agency has also established similar cooperation with Google, SpaceX, and OpenAI. All of the technology from these AI companies will be applied to the military's secret network to support various legitimate operational uses.

Through this partnership, the US military wants to make AI the foundation of their combat power. They believe that integrating a number of AI models can strengthen the ability of soldiers to make decisions in various warfare domains.

"These agreements accelerate the transformation towards the formation of the US military as a combat force that prioritizes AI," the Department of Defense wrote in its official statement, quoted on Monday, May 4.

The Pentagon deliberately formed partnerships with many AI companies. This is done to prevent dependence on one technology provider.

The hardware and AI models from these various companies will be placed in environments with high-level security classifications. These systems include Impact Levels 6 and 7 which require physical protection as well as very strict access audits.

This technology will be used to simplify data synthesis and improve situational awareness in the field. So far, more than 1.3 million military personnel have used the GenAI.mil platform for administrative and research tasks.
