JAKARTA - The X platform will reduce payments to creators who still use clickbait content to trigger interactions. This step is taken to maintain original content on the platform.
Head of Product X, Nikita Bier, stated that all aggregator accounts had been affected by a 60 percent payment cut in the first cycle. X will run the second cycle with an additional 20 percent cut.
This new policy also targets paid X users who often upload provocative posts with exaggerated labels such as 'Breaking'. Bier emphasized that the spread of stolen content would only harm the development of creators on the platform.
"X will never violate free speech or reach, but we will not compensate for manipulating our programs or users," Bier said in a post on X, quoted on Monday, April 13.
Several conservative news accounts reportedly received emails from X informing them that the monetization feature on their accounts had been disabled. One popular account, Dom Lucre, also complained about losing that income.
Although the account denied having a clickbait post, community records show that it has used the word breaking 91 times in the last week. This shows that X has tightened the content monetization filter on its platform.
On the other hand, some users are concerned that this new algorithm could be the wrong target. A user with a PoliMath account is known to have the lowest payment reduction even though his account is not in the category prohibited by X.
