JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital has issued a warning letter to Google, the parent company that oversees YouTube, for not showing its commitment to implementing the PP TUNAS.

Menmkomdigi Meutya Hafid said, based on the results of an inspection by the Director General of Digital Space Supervision on April 7, it was found that YouTube did not or had not mentioned the intention to comply with applicable regulations in the near future.

"So there is no choice, the government can't give any more tolerance to then move from the realm of inspection to the realm of sanctions. And the sanctions that we impose in accordance with the letter of the Director General issued today are sanctions in the form of a letter of reprimand to Google," Meutya told the media on Thursday, April 9.

However, Meutya did not reveal what steps Komdigi would take next after this warning letter. However, he hopes that there will be a change in attitude from Google in the future.

"Of course, the name of the sanctions we are gradual with still expecting a change in attitude from Google and for today we give a letter of reprimand. I don't want to speculate, because I am still positive that the platform will comply and obey the law in Indonesia. So we'll see later," he explained.

Previously, Google had fulfilled the Komdigi call to conduct an inspection of the Youtube platform on Tuesday, April 7. During the inspection, Komdigi asked 29 questions to Google to investigate alleged violations of regulations that have been declared valid in Indonesia, PP TUNAS.

In contrast to Meta, the technology giant owned by Mark Zuckerberg has officially changed its community guidelines by setting a minimum age limit of 16 years on all its platforms, including Instagram, Threads, and Facebook.
