JAKARTA - The first iOS 26.5 beta version has been released by Apple. Now, developers can see and try out various new features that have been added to the operating system (OS) for the iPhone.
The new features added are not just one. There are many visible improvements, ranging from ad integration in the Maps application to strengthening the cross-platform messaging security system. Here is a row of new features, launching from MacRumors.
Location and Ad Recommendations in Apple Maps
The Maps app will add a 'Recommended Places' feature to help users find popular locations around them. This feature works by utilizing recent search history and trends of locations that are being visited.
Apple is also seen displaying ads within Maps search results. All places promoted through these ads will be marked with an 'ad' label as a transparent form to users.
End-to-End Encryption on RCS Messages
Apple has reactivated end-to-end encryption (E2EE) on the RCS protocol to strengthen message security between iPhones and Androids. This feature ensures that conversations remain private so that they cannot be read by any third party.
Interoperability of Wearable Devices in the European Union
Specifically for the European Union region, Apple has begun testing a more practical third-party device pairing feature. Users can connect non-Apple earbuds just by bringing the device closer to their iPhone.
Synchronization of Notifications and Live Activity
Third-party smartwatches now have the ability to receive and respond to notifications directly from iOS devices. In addition, the Live Activity feature can also be synced to non-Apple wearables.
Data Transfer to Android
For users who want to switch to an Android device, Apple now provides settings to transfer message attachments. Users can choose to transfer data within a certain time frame, ranging from 30 days to the entire message history.
