Jakarta - Ulefone has given an unexpected touch to its rugged phone line. The Chinese manufacturer released a new software update for the Armor 28 and Armor 29 that transforms the "hardcore" phone's character into a more lifestyle-friendly one, rather than just an extreme work tool.

In its official announcement, Ulefone called this update a significant lifestyle-oriented update. The point is, the company wants the Armor 28 and Armor 29 to no longer be perceived solely as utilitarian phones for heavy terrain, but also relevant for everyday social interactions.

The update adds three classic social interaction games to the small screen on the back of the phone, namely Roll the Dice, Spin the Bottle, and Lucky Roulette. These games complement the previously existing functions, such as music control, notifications, and the camera display as a viewfinder.

Roll the Dice allows users to roll digital dice, whether for board games or just to help make decisions. Spin the Bottle presents a digital version of the classic game that is often synonymous with a relaxed gathering atmosphere. While Lucky Roulette is designed to choose a winner, divide tasks, or randomly complete a light bet.

All the games run on a 1.04-inch rear screen. Although small, this screen is integrated with the Shortcut Hub feature which allows users to access the main functions without having to turn on the main screen. Ulefone calls this concept an effort to maintain a "heads-up lifestyle", alias staying connected without being too immersed in staring at a big screen.

The back screen also supports the always-on display feature, just like the main screen. In addition to games, users can use it to control music, see notifications, and help take photos.

Ulefone also showcased this update through a video on YouTube, confirming that the company is serious about shifting the Armor image from a heavy-duty phone to a device that remains relevant in social moments.

This software update is being rolled out to all Armor 28 and Armor 29 devices gradually. Ulefone urges users to be patient if the update is not immediately available on their device.

With this move, Ulefone seems to want to prove that a rugged phone doesn't have to be rigid. In between the thick body and the rugged certification, there is now room for digital dice and small roulette. Rugged, but still fun.
