Komdigi Receives Cloudflare Audience, Agrees To Comply With Indonesian Regulations

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has received an online audience of representatives of Cloudflare regarding the fulfillment of regulations for Electronic System Operators (PSE) Covering Foreign Privacy in Indonesia.

The Director General of Digital Space Supervision of the Ministry of Komdigi, Alexander Sabar, said that the hearing was the first step in a constructive dialogue between the government and one of the largest internet infrastructure providers in the world.

In the dialogue, Alex expressed his willingness to fulfill the PSE registration obligation according to PM Kominfo No. 5/2020 and strengthening negative and unlawful digital content moderation cooperation.

"In the meeting, Cloudflare conveyed its good faith to further study the registration provisions and stated the readiness to provide a special reporting channel for Komdigi in supporting the content moderation process," Alex said in his official broadcast.

The meeting was attended bywaly Ramsey as Head of Public Policy APAC, Cloudflare and Smrithi Ramesh, as Lead for Government Outreach APAC, Cloudflare.

Cloudflare also explains the limits of their role as infrastructure providers who do not directly curate content.

Komdigi respects the explanation and views the provision of reporting channels as a form of concrete support for the government's priority in keeping the digital space safe.

However, Komdigi emphasized that the dialogue process did not change the administrative obligations that apply to all private PSE, including Cloudflare. The registration process must still be met according to the applicable mechanism.

Alex emphasized that Komdigi will continue to ensure that the entire surveillance process is carried out in a transparent, professional and proportional manner.

"The Ministry of Trade will continue to monitor the achievement of Cloudflare compliance and other Private Scope PSE, as well as follow up on every Private Scope PSE that has not met the provisions according to the applicable mechanism," he concluded.
