Komdigi Inaugurates Garuda Spark Innovation Hub In Medan, Focuses On Agriculture And Food

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs inaugurated the Garuda Spark Innovation Hub in Medan City on Saturday, November 8, as the first digital collaboration room in Sumatra to focus on developing innovation in agriculture (agritech) and food (foodtech).

The launch of the Medan Garuda Spark complements two similar hubs that were previously inaugurated, namely in Jakarta and Bandung.

With the presence in Medan, Minister of Trade Meutya Hafid hopes that this hub can create more innovations from the regions, especially in the technology sector which is directly related to the basic needs of the community.

"For Medan, we focus on innovation that can strengthen food security, although it remains open to other fields of technology," Meutya said in her official broadcast quoted on Sunday, November 9.

Meutya also believes that Medan has a digital competitiveness and great potential in the growth of the technology-based creative economy. Because according to the 2025 Digital Competitiveness Index survey, Medan occupies the 7th position as the city with the highest digital competitiveness in Indonesia.

"We also believe that the talents' works in Medan have extraordinary creativity. So it feels right to then create an innovation hub to bring talents together with industry and investors," he said.

Director General of Digital Ecosystems Edwin Hidayat Abdullah added that the Garuda Spark Innovation Hub will present various programs for startup industry players, such as digital training, mentoring forums with industrial practitioners, to meetings with investors.

Dia menegaskan, Garuda Spark bukan sekadar tempat pertemuan, melainkan platform kolaboratif yang mempertemukan ide, teknologi, dan peluang bisnis.

"Kita ingin lebih banyak perusahaan teknologi lahir dari berbagai daerah, bukan hanya dari ibu kota,” tandasnya.

He emphasized that Garuda Spark is not just a meeting place, but a collaborative platform that brings together ideas, technology, and business opportunities.

"We want more technology companies to be born from various regions, not just from the capital city," he said.
