JAKARTA - Microsoft is reportedly forming a new team to build a much more sophisticated Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. In fact, this technology is expected to exceed human ability.

The team is named Superintelitor General Microsoft AI (MAI). According to the project leadership executive, as reported by Reuters, Microsoft will focus on certain domains in running this program, starting with a medical diagnosis.

This project is similar to what its competitors did some time ago, namely Meta Platforms. The company that oversees big social media such as Instagram and Facebook has even cut hundreds of its employees to form the team.

The target is the same as Microsoft, which is to make a big leap in the AI sector. Microsoft's AI chief, Mustafa Suleyman, said his company plans to invest 'a lot of money' into this big project.

Suleyman also emphasized that Microsoft AI will continue to recruit from other leading laboratories. The new team will be filled by existing researchers and will be led by Karen Simonyan as chief scientist.

Although the direction is almost the same as Meta, Suleyman said that Microsoft is not pursuing AI with an 'infinite capability'. The Microsoft AI leader doubts that autonomous machines that can improve independently can be controlled safely.

In contrast, Microsoft focuses on the vision of 'super-humanist intelligence', namely technology that is oriented towards solving problems with real benefits in the real world. This vision focuses on ethically and directed use of AI.

For a medical diagnosis, which has long been an important domain in AI, Suleyman is optimistic about its progress. He said that Microsoft has, "a line of view to super-medical intelligence in the next two to three years."
