JAKARTA - Google has finally given a clear signal about how they will make money from its AI products. In an official statement, Robbie Stein, Google's Vice President of Products, confirmed that the company began testing advertising on AI Mode in Google Search services, as well as in several other AI experiences. Interestingly, Google's independent chatbot service "Gemini" is not mentioned at all.
In an interview on the Silicon Valley Girl podcast which was later quoted by Live Mint, Stein revealed that Google has started an "advertising experiment in AI Mode and other AI experiences." This marks Google's first step towards monetizing artificial intelligence-based search features that are now the new face of the search engine.
However, Stein was careful not to call Gemini AI a chatbot that stands apart from Google Search as part of this trial. Thus, Gemini's advertising status remains to be officially unconfirmed.

Although not explicitly referred to, the term AI experience Google (Google AI experience) used by Stein is quite extensive. This phrase can include any product that uses Google's generative AI technology including Gemini. That is, it is not impossible that in the near future, Gemini will also display ads, although the format may differ from traditional advertising.
Some previous reports have even claimed that Gemini will be a new entry point for digital advertisers, but so far these claims have not received official confirmation from Google.
Stein insists that the ads being tested in AI Mode will not resemble conventional sponsored links as it has so far appeared on search results pages. Google is exploring a more natural new and innovative ad format' in the context of conversations.
According to Stein, the idea behind it is to create a more contextual and relevant advertising experience. "We see great opportunities to make advertising more helpful and more unified in user conversations," he said. In other words, advertising will be part of dialogue, not a nuisance in the middle.
This move clarifies Google's direction in the new era: AI will remain the company's main driving engine, but its economy is still turning around thanks to advertising. With AI Mode now deepening into search engines and potential expansions to Gemini, Google is building a new generation of conversation-based business models advertising' that not only sell, but also talk.
Although the exact format and location of these AI advertisements is still in the experimental stage, the signals that appear are clear: Google is ready to change the way the world sees digital advertising, from just banners and sponsored search results to being part of conversations that sound... humane.
The era of ad-driven AI search has just begun and Gemini could be the next stage.
