The Acquisition Of MGM Studio, Amazon Offers 9 Billion US Dollars

JAKARTA - Amazon is increasingly focused on exploring the entertainment industry business. This is evident from their efforts to bid MGM Studio for 9 billion US dollars to join Amazon.

Launching Variety, Amazon is reportedly interested in acquiring MGM Studios and creating a new collaboration that is different from the type of media acquisition that is commonly carried out.

The agreement between MGM and Amazon was immediately handled by Senior Vice President of Amazon Studios and Prime Video Mike Hopkins together with MGM Studio Board Chairman Kevin Ulrich who is also the main shareholder of MGM Studio.

However, officially the two companies have not made definite comments regarding the merger effort. Since the end of 2020, MGM has officially been looking for buyers to develop their business.

Meanwhile, Amazon's seriousness in penetrating the entertainment industry is increasingly marked by the return of Jeff Blackburn who previously held executive positions for the Amazon e-commerce platform. He has a new assignment to oversee Amazon's development in the media and entertainment industry.

Overall, Amazon currently has 200 million subscribers worldwide, besides that they also say that they have distributed as many as 175 million content to the Amazon Prime application.

By inviting MGM to join, of course their content will increase and present more entertainment genres. MGM Studio itself is a production house that produces quality films, not only for the big screen but also for the glass screen.

Some of the famous film series from MGM, for example "James Bond", "Hobbit", "The Creed", "Robocop" to "Pink Panther".

They also have a wide selection of serial programs ranging from "American Gladiators", "Teen Wolf", "Get Shorty", to quality variety shows such as "The Voice", "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills", and "The Hills".

Acquiring MGM could be an easy step for Amazon considering they have a fast growing business, in 2020 alone they spent 11 billion US Dollars to deliver more diverse content on Amazon Prime.
