JAKARTA - PT XLSMART Telecom Sejahtera Tbk (XLSMART) announced that it has implemented SIM Card registration with biometric methods, face recognition.

The company says the face registration service is still optional for customers. Through a biometric system connected to a national population database, the verification process is carried out automatically to ensure data accuracy.

This initiative is a form of XLSMART's support for government programs in accelerating national digital transformation, while increasing customer data security.

XLSMART also hopes that official regulations related to biometric registration from the Ministry of Communication and Digital can be released soon, so that this implementation can run more directionally, consistently, and provide certainty for all industry players.

The SIM card registration policy using biometric technology itself is implemented by the government through Komdigi, as part of efforts to keep Indonesia's digital space safe, clean, and responsible, amid the rapid growth of users of communication services.

XL and AXIS subscribers can take advantage of this service through the registration site.xl.co.id, while SMARTFREN subscribers can access via http://smartfren.com/activation.

With this application, XLSMART strengthens the standard of Know Your Customer (KYC) in the industry, accelerates the registration process, increases accuracy, and minimizes the risk of identity fraud and data misuse.

In April 2025, XL President Director & CEO Axiata before the merger with Smartfren, Rajeev Sethi, also expressed his readiness to adopt the innovation, in order to provide a safer, more efficient, and trusted service for customers.

"This is a form of XL Axiata's support for the government's vision of accelerating national digital transformation, as well as improving customer data security through the latest biometric technology," Rajeev said in his official statement on Saturday, April 12.
