JAKARTA NVIDIA emphasized the importance of GPUs for students or workers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). This was conveyed in the campaign RTX 50 Series Back to School.

Although important, NVIDIA Indonesia Country Consumer Business Lead Adrian Lesmono stated that GPU adoption is still very low, both globally and locally. This condition is also feared to hinder the pace of innovation in the future.

Adrian explained that the Graphical Processing Unit (GPU) and Central Processing Unit (CPU) functions are different, but both are very important for PCs. Adrian likened the GPU to the PC heart, while the CPU is referred to as the brain.

"GPU is arguably the heart of all the devices PC, where the CPU (is becoming) the brain," Adrian said at the Binus Campus on Friday, September 26. "In 2025, AI is not something new anymore. In fact, we are changing how to use AI to innovate."

Global And Local GPU Adoption Gaps

With the increasingly rapid development of technology, Adrian emphasized the importance of GPU. This seems to have been realized by the US, one of the countries that is also at the forefront of technology.

In the area, according to NVIDIA's findings, about 35 percent of STEM students have used devices that support GPUs. Although the majority of students still use non-GPU PCs, this figure has shown an increase.

A fairly serious percentage can actually be seen in Indonesia. Andrian stated that students still ignore the importance of using PCs that have GPUs. In fact, the adoption of this technology is still a minority.

The GPU's adoption rate in the Indonesian market in general ranges from 15 percent. Meanwhile, at the student level, the GPU adoption rate is estimated to reach only 18 percent to 20 percent. This makes Indonesia one of the countries with very small GPU adoption.

The Importance Of GPU For The STEM Sector

In addition to revealing the latest GPU adoption trend, Adrian also explained how important the GPU is in the STEM sector. For now, this technology is very much needed because STEM is closely related to AI.

GPUs play an important role in accelerating data processing and complex computing. For AI applications, GPUs provide the parallel computing power needed for rapid model training and inference. Not only about AI, GPUs are also able to accelerate simulation, data analysis, and scientific visualization.

Realizing the importance of GPU adoption, NVIDIA also encouraged many people, especially students in the STEM sector to switch to this technology. One of their efforts to expand the adoption of GPU is to visit various campuses in Indonesia.

"NVIDIA in the last two years has always come to campus because we want to explain how relevant it is to use the right technology for students," explained Adrian. "They will be innovators in the future."
