Bluesky Updates Community Guidelines And Platform Policy

JAKARTA After two years of competing with platform X, Bluesky decided to change Community Guidelines and a number of other policies. This is done to provide clarity of the rules.

This change is largely driven by new global regulations, including the UK Online Security Act (OSA), the European Union Digital Services Act (DSA), and the TAKE IT DOWN Act in the US. Several changes were also made to user input.

"We are updating our provisions and policies to better explain our approach and provide more complete details," Bluesky said in a release, quoted on Friday, August 15.

Now, the microblogging platform requires age verification, especially for users in countries like the UK. This rule is in line with the law that came into effect last July. In addition, the complaint and appeal process is now being made in more detail.

For Community Guidelines, the change in rules is still in process because Bluesky has not closed the input column. Acceptance of this input will be valid until August 28 before further review and published in October

Later, this latest guideline will focus on four things, namely safety, respect for others, authentic, and obeying the rules. These principles will form the basis for content moderation decisions.

The purpose of setting this focus is to determine whether content should be removed, labeled, or whether the account should be suspended.

These guidelines will include policies that prohibit support for violence, illegal content, and sexual content against minors.

The rules in Community Guidelines will also include bans on malicious acts such as doxxing and dissemination of personal data without consent. There are also exceptions for journalism, parody, and satir, which are specifically regulated.

Apart from Community Guidelines, Copyright Privacy Policy and Policy have also been rewritten. Both are adapted to global law regarding user rights, data transfer, and data deletion procedures. These policies will take effect on September 15.
