SpaceX's Mission To The Moon, Pay Using Dogecoin

JAKARTA - Canadian company Geometric Energy Corporation has reached an agreement with SpaceX to launch a DOGE-1 mission to the Moon. As the name suggests, this mission was paid for using the Dogecoin cryptocurrency payment system in 2022.

Unknown, this is the mission of the first commercial Moon paid for with cryptocurrency. In a mission dubbed DOGE-1 Mission to the Moon, it will be launched with a Falcon 9 rocket.

According to a report cited by Reuters on Monday, May 10, the 88-pound rocket will gather the Moon's spatial intelligence through a combination of cameras and sensors. SpaceX is well aware of the importance of such launches.

SpaceX Vp of Commercial Sales Tom Ochinero said the mission will demonstrate crypto's survival beyond Earth and build the foundation for interplanetary commerce.

"We are excited to launch DOGE-1 to the Moon!. This mission will demonstrate the application of cryptocurrencies beyond Earth orbit and establish the basis for interplanetary trade", Ochinero said.

In addition, Geometric Energy predicts that future Moon missions will also depend on Dogecoin.

Hours before the announcement of the partnership, SpaceX broke one of its records by launching and landing a Falcon 9 rocket for the 10th time. This is the most rocket reuse the company has ever gone through.

While reusable rockets are clearly not new to the company at the moment, the news suggests that these space transport tools could be used for a long time before they have to retire.
