Perplexity Wants To Buy Google Chrome Worth IDR 559.9 Billion

JAKARTA Perplexity volunteered to buy Chrome, Google's popular browser. Artificial Intelligence Company (AI) wants to buy Chrome for 34.5 billion US dollars or around Rp559.9 billion.

The figures offered are much larger than Chrome valuations. Perplexity, confirmed to TechCrunch, said it had submitted the offer. They have also followed a number of important requirements to buy Chrome.

By completing the necessary conditions, Perplexity wants to demonstrate its commitment to safeguarding Chromium, the search engine behind Chrome. The company also pledged to keep Chrome as an open source and continues to invest in it.

In the proposed bid, Perplexity states that they will not change the built-in settings in Chrome. Perplexity will also not replace Chrome's built-in search engine with their AI-based search engine.

This offer was made without being asked by any party. Perplexity seems to want to find loopholes when Google is facing legal problems.

Some time ago, a US judge stated that Google was acting illegally in maintaining its monopoly on its online search engine. The US Department of Justice (DOJ) also advised Google to separate from Chrome for a monopoly to be resolved.

Google strongly rejected the offer and planned to go against the judge's decision. However, Perplexity seems optimistic about the decision the court will make in the near future. According to a spokesman for the company, the conditions for resolving this monopoly case will be set at the end of August.
