Xiaomi Will Have A Foldable Cellphone With An Under-Screen Camera

JAKARTA - Xiaomi is reportedly working on two of its latest flagship phones. The phones, code-named K8 and J18s are claimed to be the company's first devices with an in-display camera.

Some leaks of the main specifications of the J18s cellphone were revealed by Digital Chat Station on Weibo, quoted from GizChina, Sunday, May 9. As is well known, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold debuted in March as the company's first foldable phone.

It is estimated that the J18s is the brand's second foldable smartphone. The classified information claims that there are slight changes to the J18 as it brings support for 90Hz refresh rate screens.

The first-generation Mi MIX Fold has a 90Hz external on-screen refresh rate, while the inner screen is only 60Hz. It's likely that the J18's foldable inner screen will also support the 90Hz refresh rate.

Apart from that, the device has a triple camera system featuring a 108 MP main camera, a liquid lens with 3x optical zoom, and an ultra-wide lens. But what stands out the most about this device is the embedded in-screen camera.

Meanwhile, the exact name of the device is not yet known. It is likely that this device could be the latest version of the Mi Mix Fold.

However, this is not so surprising, because last year, in August, Xiaomi showed off camera technology in the third generation of screens. He claims that his technology allows the camera to see through the gaps in the sub-pixels.

Where the viewing area above the camera can produce the same pixel density as any other display. Therefore, the screen will be able to disguise the bottom-screen camera perfectly. Likewise, the selfie camera will be able to provide similar results to conventional front cameras.
