JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, said that the government does not want to rush to classify social media platforms based on the level of risk.
According to him, although Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 (PP TUNAS) was signed by the President four months ago, an in-depth study and collaborative approach are still needed with all digital platforms in Indonesia, in the implementation of this PP as a whole.
"So indeed we also give time to platforms to then improve other features or applications, so that Indonesian children are more friendly," said Meutya after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on the PP Implementation Action Plan No. 17 of 2025, Thursday, July 31 at TMII, Jakarta.
In accordance with the contents of PP Number 17 of 2025 article 5, the government has classified digital platforms into two level of risk, namely high-risk digital platforms and low risk.
Currently, Meutya added, the government is still in the study stage to determine the classification of the platform based on the level of risk. Although the classification has not been announced, Meutya appreciates the steps taken by several digital platforms that have responded to this regulation by adding child-friendly and adolescent-friendly features.

Meutya explained that risk classification will consider a number of variables, such as potential usage addiction, the existence of negative content such as pornography or online gambling, as well as the level of platform compliance with harmful content control.
Meutya also stressed that the government will still give platforms time to improve before the official classification is implemented.
"Of course in the near future we will also announce it. But in this principle, we want collaboration, so there is no rush. What is there is caution and communication to all stakeholders," he said.
