JAKARTA The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) collaborated with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) in building High Performance Computing (HPC) in ASEAN.
The two institutions focus on infrastructure development and capacity building. This collaboration is supported by the Government of the Republic of Korea through the Korea-ASEAN Cooperation Fund (ACCF) to support data utilization.
In carrying out this project, BRIN hosted the first meeting titled Project Steering Committee (PSC) ASEAN HPC. This meeting was held on July 10 and focused on planning the implementation and management of HPC.
"To support the infrastructure development plan and HPC capacity, we have held a meeting to discuss the scope of cooperation and the signing of an understanding between BRIN and KISTI," said Head of the BRIN Electronics and Informatics Research Organization (OREI) Budi Prawara.
Budi emphasized that the support from the Korean government and the role of BRIN as the host are very important in this partnership. The hope is that this initiative can be a forum for data utilization for all countries in ASEAN.
So far, both BRIN and KISTI have made various preparations. One of them is providing a special power cooling system and network connectivity to ensure HPC operations remain optimal.

"We hope that this activity will not only contribute to overcoming national challenges, such as natural disasters, but also play an important role in making ASEAN the leading economic power in the world," said Budi.
The HPC system that will be built by Indonesia and Korea will have 3.5 maps of FLOPS with 896 CPU cores and 56 GPUs. Each node is equipped with 1,024 GB of DDR5 RAM and 1.9 TB of local storage.
The system's interconnection reaches a speed of 400 Gbps and supports a 10-Gbe service network. For storage, the system already includes a total capacity of 3 petabytes.
