JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs proposes an additional budget of IDR 12.6 trillion, to accelerate the construction of internet access in Papua, the National Data Center (PDN), and the development of artificial intelligence technology (AI).

In a Joint Working Meeting of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Monday, July 7, the Minister of Trade, Meutya Hafid, said that the three priorities were the government's efforts to build a digitally inclusive Indonesia.

This proposal is an addition of the indicative ceiling for the 2026 budget year of Rp7.75 trillion, bringing the Ministry of Communication and Industry's total budget needs to Rp20.36 trillion.

"To support the implementation of priority programs, we need an additional budget from the indicative ceiling of the Ministry of Communication and Trade for the 2026 Fiscal Year," said Meutya at the DPR building.

Later, Meutya explained, the budget will be allocated in infrastructure development and strengthening programs, ecosystems, and digital spaces, including securing digital space, public communication and media, as well as management support programs.

"Digital transformation means towards Indonesia's digital sovereignty and independence in order to realize Asta Cita," he added.

Meutya said the Ministry of Komdigi had succeeded in achieving the title of Unqualified (WTP) from the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) on the Examination Result Report on the 2024 FY Financial Report.
