Qualcomm Vision For Smart Glasses: Without Need For Mobile Or Internet Connection

TheQualcomm has just introduced smart glasses technology that can run artificial intelligence (AI) directly on devices without relying on cloud or cell phone. Powered by Snapdragon AR1+'s latest chip, these smart glasses are capable of processing various users' needs on-device, ranging from recipe assistance when shopping to giving real-time answers, making it a stand-alone device.

Smart glasses technology that integrates AI is nothing new in the technology industry. However, the majority of devices on the market today, such as Meta Ray-Bans, still rely heavily on internet connections to access data and provide user with information. Qualcomm presents a revolutionary approach by eliminating these needs, so that all AI processes are carried out directly in the glasses.

On-Class Technology GenAI Qualcomm

With the Snapdragon AR1+ platform, Qualcomm demonstrates the ability to turn smart glasses into a truly self-contained device without the need to connect to a smartphone or cloud. This was demonstrated directly by Ziad Ashgar, Senior Vice President and General Manager XR at Qualcomm Technologies, at the world's largest AWE USA conference for Extended Reality (XR) technology.

In a demonstration that used the RayNeo X3 Pro glasses, Ashgar showed how glasses can help users look for recipes when shopping. For example, when he wanted to make Fettuccine Alfredo, he asked the ingredients needed for the glasses, and within about 15 seconds, glasses provided a list of commonly used ingredients. This shows that in addition to allowing AI to run fully on the device, these glasses are also able to provide a quick and accurate response.

Imagine the convenience that can be obtained when shopping at supermarkets without the need to carry a cellphone or depend on an internet connection. These smart glasses can be a digital assistant who is always ready to help find information or answer questions instantly. For users who often forget to bring a cellphone like a writer, these glasses can be a practical and efficient solution.

Smaller Design And Stylish

Apart from being independent without a connection, Qualcomm also highlights the potential of the Snapdragon AR1+ platform in presenting smaller and sleeker devices. Smart glasses today still can't fully look like regular glasses because of the hardware components in them. However, with smaller and more efficient chips, future devices can look more stylish and comfortable to wear on a daily basis.

Qualcomm claims Snapdragon AR1+ measures 26% smaller than previous generations, with improved image performance and quality improvements. The platform is also capable of running Small Language Models like Llama 1B, allowing smart glasses to perform local language processing without large hardware.

The Future Of Independent AI Smart Glasses

Although Qualcomm hasn't announced when this platform-based product will be commercially available, this demonstration rather serves as proof of the concept that smart glasses with on-device AI are not just future dreams. This technology opens up opportunities for manufacturers to develop devices that are not only sophisticated in terms of function, but also interesting in terms of design and convenience.

Qualcomm clearly shows a new direction in the development of AR and AI technology, which can change the way we interact with the everyday digital world through practical and self-contained wearable devices.
