Twitter Cleanses Negative Content In Russia

JAKARTA - Russia's telecommunications regulator, Roskomnadzor, stated that Twitter is willing to remove negative content that is banned by the country's government. Such as child pornography, substance abuse, and suicidal thoughts.

Launching by Reuters report, Twitter has removed 60 percent of content that is prohibited in Russia. Especially since Russia slowed down the speed of the platform in March.

Even so, there is more than 1,000 illegal content that can still be accessed on the platform, the number is down from last year's more than 3,000 content. This prompted Russia to extend the Twitter platform slowdown again until May 15.

Roskomnadzor found more than 900 new content banned since the March 10 slowdown. According to them, Twitter removed newly detected illegal content within 81 hours of the request, slower than the statutory deadline of 24 hours.

Twitter denies allowing the platform to be used to promote illegal behavior and has zero-tolerance for sexual exploitation of children and prohibits the promotion of suicide or self-harm.

Twitter representatives stated that they had discussed with Roskomnadzor on April 1 and April 28 regarding the issue of the illegal content. Roskomnadzor stated at the meeting last April 28, they agree to establish direct communication for content moderation.
