JAKARTA - Equinix inaugurated its first International Business Exchange (IBX) data center in Indonesia, which is named JK1, through a partnership with PT Astra International Tbk (Astra).

Built in the Kuningan area, Jakarta, JK provides access to a local ecosystem consisting of more than 50 cloud services, networks, and internet exchanges.

"Today is a significant milestone for Equinix, the JK1 inauguration and our first international business change, or IBX, our data center in the midst of Jakarta," said Jon Lin at the launch of JK1, Thursday, May 15.

JK1 consists of eight floors which in the first phase will provide 550 server racks. In the second phase, JK1 targets a total capacity of 1,600 server racks, with a collocation area of 5.300 square meters when fully completed.

Jon Lin said that Equinix had disbursed an investment of US$74 million or around Rp1.184 trillion for the construction of this data center.

"From Equinix, in terms of our investment capex for the first market is around 38 million US dollars. And in total for JK1 this is around 74 million US dollars, the estimated," said Jon Lin further.

What distinguishes JK1 from other data centers is that JK1 is equipped with Global Network Services (GNS), which will connect to all digital ecosystems of Equinix's data center around the world.

For information, currently, the global network of the Equinix Platform has covered more than 260 data centers in 74 major cities and 35 countries.

In Asia-Pacific, Equinix operates 60 data centers in 16 major cities in Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Singapore. Equinix also announced market expansions to the Philippines and Thailand last year.

Jon Lin also hopes that the Equinix platform, which is equipped with strong digital infrastructure, can improve connectivity and support future technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI).

"With the Equinix platform which is rich in cloud services and very secure, companies in Indonesia can build networks and data services quickly and on a large scale, with a wide global reach and digital ecosystem," he said.
