JAKARTA - Google is developing a new feature that users are eagerly waiting for for for the Google Messages app. This feature allows users to "postpone" (snooze) notifications from certain conversations, both individuals and groups, over a time period that can be selected as needed. For many users who are often interrupted by group notifications that continue to sound, this can be a savior.
This snooze feature was found in the Google Messages application update version of messages.android_20250420_01_RC00.phone.openbeta_dynamics, although not publicly available.
In this internal version, this feature can be activated and tested by the Android Authority team through the APKEARdown method, which is to dismantle the application code to find hidden features that are being developed.
When this feature is officially released, Google Messages will present a new button in the toolbar that appears when the user presses the length of a conversation. This button allows users to choose the duration of the snooze starting from 1 hour, 8 hours, 24 hours, to the 'always' option to permanently disable notifications. This option will also be available on the user or group profile, through the "Snooze chat" menu.

Interestingly, for group chats, users can also choose to keep receiving notifications if they are referred to directly with the sign @ (mention). The chat that is being disnooze will be marked by a small clock icon on the main screen, and a pop-up will appear in a conversation that displays the duration of the snooze that is currently active.
If users want to reactivate the notification, they simply tap the same Snooze button on the main screen or select the Unsnooze chat option on the conversation profile page.
While this feature is not yet available in the Google Messages version released to the public, its presence in the development version shows that its official launch is unlikely to take long. This feature is certainly a very useful addition to setting notifications and maintaining user focus without having to block or archive important conversations.
