JAKARTA Apple's iPhone 18 series released in 2026 is predicted to experience a significant technological leap with the use of a 2nm chip from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).
According to renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this chip will be used by the Cupettino company in all ranks of the iPhone 18, not just the Pro model as previously thought.
Currently, the iPhone 16 uses the 3nm A18 chip on the regular model and the A18 Pro on the Pro. iPhone 17, which is scheduled for release at the end of 2025, is predicted to use a 3nm based A19 chip.
However, for the iPhone 18, Apple will switch to a 2nm-based A20 chip, which is claimed to increase performance by 10-15% over its predecessor, while reducing power consumption for longer battery life.
According to the latest report by Ming-Chi Kuo on March 22, 2025, TSMC's 2nm chip test results have exceeded the 60-70% success rate, even now exceeding that figure. This is a strong indication that the entire iPhone 18 line will use the latest technology.
In addition to the increase in processors, Apple is also preparing several major changes for future generations of iPhones:
iPhone 17 Slim
Apple is rumored to be removing the "Plus" model on the iPhone 17 and replacing it with a thinner model, possibly called the Slim iPhone 17.
This model will continue to use the A19 chip like the iPhone 17 regular model.
Bezel-Free Design
Apple continues to work on screen designs without bezels. Although the iPhone 16 is close to this concept, the iPhone 17 is expected to have thinner bezels.
