Microsoft Ready To Launch Indonesia Cloud Region, Create 106 Thousand Jobs

JAKARTA - Microsoft Indonesia announced that it will launch the Indonesia Cloud Region in the second quarter of 2025, as part of the company's previously announced investment.

The President Director of Microsoft Indonesia, Dharma Simorangkir, emphasized that the development of the Indonesia Cloud Region is included in an investment that was revealed by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, amounting to US $ 1.7 billion (IDR 27.6 trillion) in December last year.

The development of its first cloud region in Indonesia has been Microsoft's commitment since 2021. More than just a data center, this cloud region will become the basis for AI-based innovation, providing safe and measurable computing power for Indonesia.

"Cloud region consists of several data centers and operates within certain geographic areas by following local regulations," Dharma said at the Breaking Fast, Breaking Barriers: What's Next in 2025 and Beyond on Wednesday, March 12.

Dharma also revealed that the presence of the Indonesia Cloud Region is projected to help accelerate cloud adoption and also have a significant economic impact.

Based on Microsoft's calculations with IDC, Indonesia Cloud Region will contribute around 2.5 billion US dollars (Rp41.14 trillion) from the total new economic value of 15.2 billion US dollars (Rp250 trillion) in 2025-2028.

"Not only that, we also calculate community impact, namely new jobs that will be created from the existence of Indonesia Central Region, around 106,295 new jobs from various industries, including manufacturing, resources, finance, government, media communication, and others," he explained.

Scheduled to launch and ready to operate in Q2 2025, Microsoft cloud region in Indonesia known as Indonesia Central.

"As Satya Nadella said, technology is not only about technology itself, but about providing new economic value," he said.
