Google Maps Gets Live Update Support On Android 16

JAKARTA Android 16 testing has been carried out and a number of new features continue to be added, the most recent is Live Update. Reportedly, Google Maps will be the first app to adopt the feature.

Live updates are a feature similar to Live Activities on iOS. The function is to display notifications in real-time, but with different placements. iOS will place its features on Dynamic Island, while Android is on the notch.

Previously, there was no idea what the Live Update feature would be like on Android because Google did not develop features like Dynamic Island. After Android Authority discovered the integration of its features on Google Maps, the display was only clearly known.

On Android 16 beta 2.1, Google Maps will add an estimate of the next turn time and an estimate of the time to arrive at the notch section or the device's status bar. This time display is clearly visible with a green pill-shaped background.

If a user withdraws a notification panel, they will see clearer time estimates. Google will place the Live Update feature at the top so that the display is not covered by other notifications.

In addition, Google is also seen adding an option to disable the feature. To disable Live Update on Google Maps, users only need to open the application settings, then search for the Turn off Live Info Show option.

Android 16 beta will continue to be updated so that the Live Update feature can be found in other applications. Google still has plenty of time to develop the feature and integrate its features into default apps or even third-party apps.
