JAKARTA At the end of January, news emerged that Apple had stopped the Augmented Reality (AR) eyewear creation project. However, the latest report states that Apple is not desperate.

Sources familiar with the eyewear manufacturing project, citing a Bloomberg report, revealed that Apple simply canceled the AR glasses attached to the Mac. The company wants to make AR glasses that can stand alone.

Previously, Apple tried to restore AR glasses that had to be connected to the Mac. It did not explain in detail why the project was canceled. Apple's internal sources only said that the test results did not show good results.

Instead of focusing on AR glasses connected to Macs, Apple will now focus on developing regular AR glasses that are more similar to Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. The prototype may not be much different from the glasses made by Meta.

To develop self-standing AR glasses, Apple will need more time. According to a 9to5mac report, Vision Products Group is still developing all the major basic technologies needed by the AR glasses.

Apple will take about three to five years to develop these AR glasses. In order not to fail like making AR glasses tied to Macs, Apple will be careful and don't want to rush into making them.

Judging from the estimated time, the AirPods Pro with camera support may be released first. This advanced device that will take advantage of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology will launch in 2027 if Apple does not face manufacturing constraints.
