JAKARTA Almost all Google services are supported by Gemini, but some of them only receive a little support. One of these apps is Google Maps' pointing service.

Google first added Gemini support to Maps last year. This integration allows users to search for the desired location with a natural language query and is only that limited to a few months.

Fortunately, Google decided to add other Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based capabilities into Maps. Based on the findings of app researchers at the Android Authority, it was revealed that Google was developing a contextual Gemini for Maps.

Thanks to this ability, users can directly ask Gemini about a location. For example, you search for one of the popular locations in Paris, then contextual chips appear. You can ask any questions related to that location.

This feature also works while you are not opening the Maps app. If the directional instructions application is active in the background, users can still activate Gemini and see the 'Ask about the place' icon above the command typing bar.

When the icon is tapped, the place link will automatically paste in the command typing bar and users can ask direct questions about the location. That way, users no longer need to activate Gemini with an open Maps condition.

This update can be seen in the beta version of Google app 16.4.35. In the currently available version, the feature only works for big cities in a few countries. When the feature is rolled out widely, Google may expand its capabilities.
