JAKARTA - A few days ago, an artificial intelligence (AI) startup from China, DeepSeek experienced a large-scale cyberattack, as a result there was a disruption in the registration process on DeepSek applications and websites.
Cybersecurity firm Kaspersky said that DeepSek's presence attracted attention not only from users, but also from bad actors. What stands out in DeepSek's case is the nature of its open source, which Kaspersky says is a double-edged sword.
When using open source tools, you can't always believe how your data is handled, especially if other people have spread it, said Olga Svistunova, Senior Web Content Analyst at Kaspersky in an official statement.
In addition to the DeepSek case, Kaspersky also found several related cases. One of them is a fake registration page or the emergence of a new crypto token based on DeepSek promotions available for sale.
Through the fake registration page, attackers can collect user email and passwords and tokens that are not officially related to the DeepSek brand, Olga added.
