The Sei Foundation recently launched the Sapien Capital, an investment fund worth US$65 million (around Rp1.05 trillion) aimed at funding the development of projects in the field of decentralized science or decentralized science (DeSci).

The fund will focus on startups operating on the Sei blockchain, an ecosystem designed to increase the efficiency and scalability of decentralized applications. In the announcement, the Sei Foundation revealed that these funds are fully funded by them, without relying on external contributions. However, the possibility of collaboration with future investors or strategic partners remains open.

Sapien Capital will allocate investment in the range of US$100,000 (Rp1.62 billion) to US$2 million (Rp32.4 billion) per project. The funds are planned to be distributed in the next three to four years.

The main focus of this investment includes the development of sophisticated wearable devices, the management of scientific data based on decentralized platforms, as well as drug discovery methods that combine the gaming mechanism.

Demand for DeSci is increasing rapidly, given the potential of this sector to change access to scientific research. The concept of decentralization allows for a more equitable distribution of funds and opens open data access, without relying on centralized institutions. In addition, blockchain technology used in the Sei ecosystem ensures greater transparency in fund management and publication of research results.

The Sei Foundation also plans to work closely with universities, researchers, and biotechnology companies to accelerate the adoption of DeSci. The goal is to strengthen the credibility of this sector and facilitate integration with traditional scientific communities. Through educational support and market strategies, Sei hopes to help startups in introducing these new solutions to the wider community.

In last night's trading, Sei's original token (SEI) increased by 10.5% in 24 hours, trading at a price of 0.328 US dollars (Rp5,316) with a market capitalization of US$1.45 billion (around Rp23.5 trillion).
