Boeing Expected To Experience Additional Losses To Starliners

JAKARTA Boeing will release its fourth quarter financial results in the near future. In the financial report, the loss of the CST-100 Starliner spacecraft is projected to increase.

This aircraft and satellite manufacturer has provided a fourth-quarter financial preview of 2024. In the report, Boeing is estimated to spend US$1.7 billion (Rp27.6 trillion) in the Defense, Space and Security business units.

Of the total costs, 800 million US dollars (IDR 12.9 trillion) is estimated for KC-46A tankers, while 500 million US dollars (IDR 8.1 trillion) is used for T-7A aircraft. That way, a fee of 400 million US dollars (IDR 6.4 trillion) is spent on Starliners, VC-25B aircraft, and MQ-25.

It is not yet certain how much is spent on Starliner, but the company seems confident that the aircraft, which is the result of collaboration with NASA, will add to the amount of losses. Chances are, the amount is not as big as the third quarter of 2024.

Last year, Boeing stated that it spent $250 million on Starliner. This huge spending is due to Starliner experiencing a lot of problems, both before launch and after launch.

In fact, the problem with this spacecraft has trapped two astronauts on the Space Station (ISS) for almost a year. They are prohibited from returning to Earth using Starliners to avoid the risk of accidents.

There is no further information or details regarding the financial statements in the fourth quarter of 2024. Boeing will release its report in detail on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.
