Meta Admits The Many 'errors' In Its Content Moderation System

JAKARTA As a company that oversees various social media, Meta is trying to develop the best content management system. Unfortunately, the development of this system is considered not going well.

Meta, on its official website, reveals that the content management system across its social media has undergone many changes. This content moderation system is becoming very complex due to social and political pressures.

The company also realized that the changes that occurred were 'outrageous' and caused many mistakes. The Meta content moderation system often hinders freedom in expression so that not a few users feel frustrated.

"Too much content is harmless censored, too many people are mistakenly locked up in 'Facebook prison', and we are often too slow to respond when that happens," Meta said on Tuesday, January 7.

In accordance with their commitment to freedom of expression, Meta says that it will improve content management systems across its platforms. The first thing they do is end Fact Examination from third parties.

Initially, Meta founded independent facts in 2016 to get the best choice. Meta doesn't want to be the determinant of the truth so the organization will provide a response to viral content, especially fake news.

Unfortunately, this organization is not going well because experts have their own biases and perspectives. In the end, Meta has too much content that needs to be checked and the system often labels a content wrong.

"We are now changing this approach. We will end the current third-party fact-checking program in the United States and start switching to the Community Records program," Meta said.

The company also said it was inspired by X, formerly known as Twitter. According to Meta, X is making a better approach where the community will determine whether the content created is misleading or not.

"We think this could be a better way to achieve our original goal of providing people with information about what they're seeing and what's not too vulnerable to bias," explains Meta.

Community Records will be available on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. Users have the opportunity to become contributors and this feature will be released in the US first. After that, Meta will expand its features in the next few months.
