JAKARTA Summarizing Notification Preview is one of the Apple Intelligence features to be launched on iOS 18.3. In fact, the function of this feature is simple, namely summarizing incoming notifications.

However, this feature has been in debate since it appeared in beta testing versions. The BBC had discovered problems with the feature and said that Apple Intelligence made wrong summary results and was misleading.

In December, the BBC had created an article about a man named Lugi Mangione who was arrested for being a suspect in the United HealthGroup CEO assassination case. However, a summary feature from Apple stated, "Luigi Mangione shot himself."

This summary is very different from the title, or even the content of the article, created by the BBC. After revealing the issue of the Notification Preview feature to the public, an Apple spokesperson finally revealed that they were trying to perfect the feature.

"The Apple Intelligence (it) feature is still in beta and we are continuing to make improvements with the help of user input," the spokesperson said on Tuesday, January 7. "We encourage users to report unexpected issues."

An Apple spokesperson also said that they would improve the appearance of the Notification Preview Summary. Currently, no special label indicates that the summary displayed comes from Apple's Artificial Intelligence (AI) feature.

"The software update in the coming weeks will further clarify when the text displayed is a summary provided by Apple Intelligence," the spokesperson said.

iOS 18.3 is targeted for release in late January. Before launching in a stable version, Apple will launch an update for the next beta test. Most likely, changes to the notification summary will be included in the update.
