Apple Gives IPhone 16 Discounts In China To Increase Competition

JAKARTA - Apple is reportedly offering discounts for its newest iPhone model, the iPhone 16 Series in China, in an effort to increase competition from domestic competitors such as Huawei.

Promotions will last for four days, starting from January 4-7, applicable to several iPhone models if purchased using certain payment methods, according to its website.

The flagship iPhone 16 Pro at an initial price of 7,999 yuan (IDR 17.7 million) and the iPhone 16 Pro Max at an initial price of 9,999 yuan (IDR 22.1 million) will get the highest discount of 500 yuan (IDR 1.1 million). While the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will get a discount of 400 yuan (IDR 887 thousand).

According to Reuters records, the discount was given as consumers were still cautious in shopping amid China's slowing economy and deflationary pressure, with the country's consumer inflation hitting its lowest point in five months in November.

Not only that, ahead of the opening of its newest retail store in Hefei, China, Apple launched a special wallpaper and special Apple Watch display featuring Apple logos designed like Huizhou wood carvings, one of the traditional people's carvings.

The opening of his newest retail store will take place at the MixC Hefei shopping center in Hefei, China on January 18 at 10 am local time.
