OpenAI CFO: Trump As President Of The AI Era, Believes Musk Prioritizes National Interests

JAKARTA President-elect Donald Trump is predicted to become the "president of the AI generation" because he is leading when infrastructure is important to develop generalized artificial intelligence (AGI) is under construction. This was said by OpenAI Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Sarah Friar.

"He will be at the beginning of that period, maybe even when we achieve things like AGI," Friar said at a Reuters NEXT conference in New York on Tuesday, December 10. AGI refers to an autonomous system capable of surpassing human capabilities in most economic-valued tasks.

Friar has also eased concerns over Elon Musk's public threat to OpenAI. Musk, who is one of the founders of OpenAI, is now running OpenAI's competitors and is a close adviser to Trump's transition team.

"We believe he ... as a competitor, will put national interests first and compete appropriately," Friar said in response to a question from Reuters Editor-in-Chief Alessandra

Musk previously criticized the change in OpenAI's structure which removed the control of his non-profit council. Now, he and Vivek Ramaswamy, a former Republican presidential candidate, lead the task force to reduce government spending and regulations.

Friar also revealed the high demand for OpenAI's video generation tool, Sora, which was just launched this week. However, access to Sora is still limited.

"Some are due to capacity, but also because we want to move carefully... we only open access to a handful of people at this time in order to hear and learn," he explained.

A different approach is applied to Sora compared to ChatGPT, with a main focus on security. OpenAI also plans to launch more AI agent products next year software that can perform tasks autonomously on behalf of users.

"I think next year we're going to see a lot of moves around this agent, and people will be surprised how quickly this technology develops," Friar said.

In addition to the generation video and AI agents, OpenAI is developing a new dynamic with its main investor, Microsoft. "We're thinking about helping each other grow, but also realizing that diversification is a good thing for overall industrial growth," added Friar.

Despite the controversy over the restructuring of governance and the issuance of a number of executives, OpenAI continues to grow rapidly. The number of ChatGPT weekly active users jumped from 200 million in August to 300 million, driven by the launch of a new processing model such as o1.

With this development, OpenAI strengthens its position as a pioneer in the era of technological transformation based on artificial intelligence.
