Huawei Ready To Challenge Google Android Through Harmony OS

JAKARTA - Huawei, ensures their own Harmony operating system (OS) will be present on P40 Pro and P50 mobile devices. The OS will also support more Huawei devices that will be released globally.

"Next, Harmony OS will be present on mobile phones," said Rotating Chairman of Huawei, Eric Xu, during the Huawei Global Analyst Summit 2021.

This announcement is at once, a teaser for Huawei's newest flagship smartphone, the P50, which will be released in June. Flagships will be launched in conjunction with the MatePad Pro 2 tablet, which will also run the new OS.

Harmony OS itself has entered the Beta 3.0 version that already supports the Huawei ecosystem. The software will also be rolled out globally for the P40 Pro, Mate 30 and MatePad Pro.

As is known, the impact of the United States trade war with China has dealt a hard blow to Huawei since 2019. As a result Huawei phones no longer get a full license from Google Android services.

Since then, they have developed the Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) ecosystem in lieu of Google Mobile Service (GMS). The OS will later be installed on wearable devices as well as Huawei flagship smartphones.

Huawei is already working with 20 software vendors and 280 application vendors to develop an ecosystem at Huawei Mobile Services. As of the end of last year, there were 23, million registered developers in the HMS ecosystem, about 300,000 developers outside China.

"We estimate that more than 40 mainstream brands and 100 million devices will become harmony OS entry points by 2021," Xu said.

Note Huawei, last year users of Huawei App Gallery outside China rose more than 10-fold compared to 2019. Huawei App Gallery reaches more than 700 million Huawei users in 170 countries and territories.
