Meta To Build Its Largest Data Center Worth IDR 158 Trillion In Louisiana

JAKARTA Meta said it was building its largest data center in Louisiana, the US state. Through its official account, Meta said it was partnering with the local government.

"In partnership with the Louisiana Economic Developments, we announce our plans for our latest and largest data center in Richland Parish, Louisiana, which will play an important role in accelerating our AI (Artificial Intelligence) progress", Meta said via its Threads account on December 5.

Meta added that this data center will also be used to support open-source Large Language Model (LLM) training in the future. The construction of this data center will cost US$10 billion (Rp158 trillion).

So far, Meta already has more than 20 data centers in various parts of the world. The Louisiana government also said it was proud that Meta chose to build its largest data center in the country. This decision is considered to strengthen the status of the country.

"The Meta investment makes this region an anchor in the fast-growing Louisiana technology sector, revitalizing one of the beautiful rural areas in our state," said Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry.

Landry added that this investment in data center development in the country will create more high-paying job opportunities. Thus, the country's Meta data center can support large economic growth.

"I thank Meta for their commitment to our state, and to the State Legislative Body for positioning Louisiana to win this project," Landry said.

This data center will use a clean and efficient power plant to its system. Meta had promised that it would match its electricity usage to 100 percent clean and renewable energy and reduce water use in data centers.

The construction of this data center will be carried out in the future, before the turn of the year, and will continue until 2030 if there are no obstacles in its development.
