Apple's Folding IPhone Is Expected To Save The Lower Market

JAKARTA The latest report from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) shows that the folding phone market experienced its first annual decline. After enjoying rapid growth from 2019 to 2023, this market is estimated to only grow 5% in 2024 and fall 4% in 2025.

According to the DSCC, demand for folding phone panels has stagnated at 22 million units, with a 38% drop in the third quarter of 2024. This condition has sparked concerns for manufacturers who rely on folding phones.

Despite this downward trend, Apple is projected to trigger a market revival. IPhone folding phones, which are predicted to launch by the end of 2026, are expected to be able to revolutionize this category and drive significant growth.

The DSCC estimates 2026 will be the best year for the foldable phone market with more than 30% growth. Apple's presence impact is expected to continue into 2027 and 2028 with growth above 20% each year.

However, some challenges remain. Folding phones are considered more fragile, expensive, and prone to dirt, as stated by users in comments related to the Samsung Galaxy Fold device.

However, if Apple manages to improve aspects of functionality and durability, market demand can increase. The question now is the extent to which Apple is able to change the fate of the foldable phone market and whether competitors can follow in its footsteps.
