Elon Musk's Neuralink Makes Monkeys =So Can Play Games Like Humans

JAKARTA - Elon Musk's Neuralink company released a video showing a monkey playing a game. The monkey has got the addition of technology in his head, which is a chip.

The video released by Neuralink is only 3 minutes long. The monkey in the video is named Pager with a chip already embedded in his brain. Pager is playing mind pong.

Monkey Pager plays the game using his brain. He is also being trained to use joysticks as human gamers usually do.

Pager controls the paddle using the mind. He is also able to move his hands down and up to play the game.

"The first @Neuralink product will allow someone with paralysis to be able to use a smartphone with their mind faster than someone using a thumb," Musk wrote in a tweet on his Twitter account.

Musk added that the latest version of the chip can stream signals from the brain that are already equipped with Neuralink chips to other parts of the body such as motor and sensory functions of the body.

"Making it possible, for example, for paralyzed people to walk again. The device is implanted in the skull and charges wirelessly, so you look and feel completely normal," he said.

Neuralink chips can operate by recording and decoding electrical signals found in the brain. Neuralink uses about 2,000 electrodes that have been embedded in the area of the monkey's motor cortex. This allows Pager to move his arms and hands.

"Using this data, we calibrate the decoder by automatically modeling the relationship between neural activity patterns and the various joystick movements they produce."

For information, Neuralink is a company founded by Elon Musk in 2016. The company is located in San Francisco. Neuralink aims to create a chip that can be implanted in the brain to help tackle a range of neurological diseases including dementia, Alzheimer's and paralysis.
