JAKARTA Samsung wants to use a new way to measure the carbon impact and emission reduction on its devices. At the launch of this methodology, Samsung partnered with Carbon Trust.
This partnership was officially announced on November 12. The South Korean company explained that the launch of this latest metodogi was part of the Decarbonizing the Use-Phase of Connected Devices (DUCD) initiative.
In this case, Samsung together with Carbon Trust, Amazon, Microsoft, and Sky agreed to tackle greenhouse gas emissions generated from electricity consumption through electric products and electronic devices, such as the technology that Samsung is developing.
Companies adopting this methodology can assess and report emissions using data taken from devices used by their customers. The company can also calculate the emission reductions that have been achieved.

"Emissions of the use phase (device) account for the largest part of our all-cycle carbon product emissions, and measurements are key to managing and reducing emissions," said Samsung Electronics Central Vice President Inhee Chung.
Chung added that Samsung is trying to maximize energy savings by directly involving and empowering its consumers. The hope is that all Samsung customers can be involved in monitoring energy consumption.
"We look forward to implementing the DUCD methodology to show how its SmartThings and AI Energy Mode platforms allow consumers to monitor and reduce energy usage on connected devices," Chung explained.
