Jakarta - Google has announced an interesting update to the Google Home app, including a media control overhaul and the upcoming addition of the "Member Access" feature. This update not only updates the appearance of media controls but also increases the convenience of sharing smart home access safely and under control.
In the current version, Google Home media controls display arc-shaped volume settings with in-medium play/tap button and song navigation. However, this update will turn the display into a large rectangular media card similar to the media notification on Android.
Song artwork performs bigger, with the application icon at the top left, as well as the title and artist listed clearly. The play button/twice in the right corner as well as the progress bar and control volume of the Material 3 style add to the modern impression.
This new design is designed to make it easier for users to access media controls more quickly and comfortably. To date, this feature is not fully available on Google Home for Android and iOS, but it is certain that it will launch soon.

Member Access Feature
In addition, Google also introduced the "Member Access" feature that allows users to share smart home access with those closest to adjustable controls. Users can choose full access as an admin or provide limited access, for example to their home friends, children, or caregivers.
This new Access member is expected to be more granular than the existing access system, providing flexibility for users in managing access controls as needed.
Google also announced several additional features, including the Google Home Gemini Extension, Nest Cam/Doorbell feed display on the Pixel Watch 3, Nest Doorbell notification on the Pixel Tablet, new clock mode on the Pixel Tablet Mode Hub, Home Panel on the Android 15 save screen, as well as Google Home widgets on Android and iOS.
This update demonstrates Google's commitment to improving a more functional and integrated smart home ecosystem, providing a better user experience in managing their smart home devices.
