JAKARTA - Gradually, PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (State Electricity Company) is restoring electricity in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Now 159 electrical substations that were disturbed by floods and landslides are back in operation.
"As soon as the storm subsided, our officers immediately went to the field to check the condition of the electricity infrastructure and repair the network that was affected by the storm", said General Manager of the NTT Regional Main Unit PLN, Agustinus Jatmiko, in his statement, Monday, April 5.
The restoration of the 159 power stations, continued Agustinus, has enabled 33 thousand customers to return to enjoying electricity in their homes.
The tropical cyclone Seroja caused many trees to fall, knocked down billboards, landslides, and made many roofs of houses fly off so that they hit the power grid causing the electricity to be disrupted.
The PLN recorded as many as 2.226 electricity substations due to the extreme weather. Even the current Timor electricity system cannot be restored due to road access that is still cut off.
The PLN ensures that they will immediately restore the flow of electricity when the flood has receded or the network condition has been confirmed safe. Meanwhile, for areas with inundation floods, the PLN has not been able to turn on the electricity for the safety of residents.
“The wind was very strong, and several of our offices were also damaged. However, we ensure that the officers in the field continue to work to restore the network so that people can enjoy electricity again", added Agustinus.
