Two Indonesian Choir Groups Win the Champion at the Tokyo International Choir Competition 2026

JAKARTA - The proud achievements made by the children of the nation on the international stage, when the choir group, Bina Vokalia Bali and Svara Nusantara, successfully achieved a proud achievement at the 8th Tokyo International Choir Competition (TICC).

In the event held in Tokyo, Japan on July 24-26, Bina Vokalia Bali which was established since 1976 managed to win the I Champion in the Children's Choir A category.

The choir, which consists of 37 young singers aged 4 to 13 years old from Bali, also successfully advanced to the Grand Prix Final round, confirming the quality of Indonesian young talent on the world choir stage.

Meanwhile, Svara Nusantara from Indonesia managed to win the 1st place (Category Winner) with a score of 91.35 and the Gold Prize in the Mixed Choir Category at the 8th TICC 2026 in Japan.

In that event, Svara Nusantara was the only representative of Indonesia who qualified as a finalist in the Mixed Choir category.

The Indonesian Ambassador to Japan, Nurmala Kartini Sjahrir, expressed his appreciation for the proud achievements and the name of Indonesia from Bina Vokalia Bali and Svara Nusantara.

"The brilliant achievements shown by the Bina Vokalia and Svara Nusantara choir boys and girls at the 8th TICC 2026 have made the name of the Indonesian nation shine on the world art stage. As we know, art is a universal language that can weave friendship between countries. The TICC event, which was attended by a number of countries, was a valuable moment not only in competing but also weaving friendships with Japan and other friendly countries," said Ambassador Kartini, as quoted from the statement of the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo (31/7).

"Indonesian sons and daughters with qualified talents through this choir become the basic capital for them to continue to show the best achievements in the future. They are ambassadors of the Indonesian nation in the international arena who must continue to receive support not only from the Government but also from the people of Indonesia," he added.

"The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo always provides support for Indonesian sons and daughters who have the opportunity to show their abilities in world competitions held in Japan. This support we give as a form of appreciation for accompanying these children ambassadors to bring the name of Indonesia to the world stage," he added.

The Bina Vokalia Bali team presented three works in the final round, namely "Michi" (Ko Matsushita), "Meyong-Meyong" (Traditional Balinese Song, arr. Felix Avi) and "Bengawan Solo" (Gesang Martohartono, arr. Felix Avi).

Under the direction of Putri Faradini Baihaqi as conductor and accompanied by Rainhard B. Torang on piano, Bina Vokalia Bali managed to advance to the Grand Prix round on July 26, 2026.

In that round, they performed "Meyong-Meyong" (arr. Felix Avi) and "Naik Delman" (Pak Kasur, arr. Felix Avi).

The achievements obtained include Gold Medal; Champion I Category Children's Choir A-; and, Grand Prix Finalist.

Meanwhile, Svara Nusantara, which was formed since November 18, 2023, is domiciled in South Tangerang in this world event, lowering 45 singers, 1 conductor, and 1 official.

At the TICC 2026 event, Svara Nusantara successfully won the Category Winner and Grand Prix Round Finalist. Svara Nusantara performed the song "Mana Lolo Banda" from Rote, East Nusa Tenggara, which was arranged by Arga Rakasiwi.

The selection of the song is intended to introduce the beauty of Indonesian music to participants and international audiences, as well as bring the colors of the Nusantara culture to cross-country meetings even though in a limited time.

In addition to participating in TICC 2026, Svara Nusantara also participated in a satellite concert held on Edozakura-dori St., and performed at the TICC Exchange Party which brought together all cross-country contestants, including from Japan, Taiwan, Bulgaria, the United States, Poland, and other countries.
