JAKARTA - The iPhone 16 Pro Max is back in the spotlight, when Apple confirmed its position as the best-performing smartphone and longest battery life this year.

In a battery test conducted by PhoneBuff, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is pitted against the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. This test involved various application functions controlled by robotic arms.

As a result, the iPhone 16 Pro Max lasted for a total of 28 hours 14 minutes, with more than 12 hours of screen active time on and 16 hours on standby. The battery performance broke a new record, beating all the smartphones ever tested by PhoneBuff.

In comparison, the Galaxy S24 Ultra was able to last 27 hours 18 minutes, even though it died an hour earlier than the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro Max tested last year with iOS 17 was able to last 27 hours 45 minutes.

This year's PhoneBuff test is also a bit more challenging, with more simulations of scrolling through Instagram and other apps than previous testing.

PhoneBuff uses a robot arm that is programmed to accurately mimic input interactions on each phone, thus providing the most realistic synthetic battery-resistant benchmarks.

Instead of just playing videos over and over again or browsing websites until cell phones turn off, the PhoneBuff test includes various activities that a phone can do.

These activities include sending and receiving messages, reviewing emails, web browsing, scrolling social media, watching YouTube, playing games, listening to streaming music, using Google Maps, and others.
